A water pump bearing is a shaft and bearing in one unit. It carries the pump impeller on one end and the fan belt pulley on the other, so it takes belt tension and heat all day. A failing water pump bearing shows up as a whining noise, a wobbling pulley or coolant leaking from the pump weep hole.

Frequently asked questions
Should I replace the water pump seal with the bearing?
Yes. When the bearing is worn the seal is usually damaged too. Replace both, and check the belt tension so the new bearing is not overloaded.
